December 2025
Watch for our 2026 Book Sale postcard!
The times are set for our 2026 Book Sale, with the best selection available when doors open at noon on Wednesday, April 15. The sale is held on the ground floor of the Towson branch. We accept cash, checks or credit cards (minimum charge is $5).

Your amazing support and participation in our annual April Book Sale have made a difference, helping us give the Towson Library the extra love it deserves. By keeping your membership going, you’ll join a lively community of fellow book enthusiasts and community-minded people who are all about improving the library experience and spreading the joy of reading.
Our bargain day is Saturday, April 18, when all of the remaining books are priced at $5 a foot. Doors open at 10, but the line usually begins at 9 a.m. on that last day.
Our Book Sale postcards will be available throughout the branch and included in your membership renewal next month. Bring the postcard to receive one free fiction book on Thursday or Friday, April 16 or 17.
Please Note: We’re always looking for volunteers to help with the Book Sale. Especially welcome are folks with strong backs who can haul boxes of books to help with setting up on the Tuesday before the sale. If you’re interested, please email towsonfriends@gmail.com.
Accepting donations for the Book Sale until March 31
Please bring gently-used books to the information desk during regular library hours. Most popular with our customers are children’s books, like-new hardbacks (with dust jackets) and military history.
News and Notes:
- If you’re a fan of author Jennifer Weiner, don’t miss her Feb. 22, 2026 appearance as part of the Booked for BCPL series sponsored by the nonprofit Foundation for the Baltimore County Public Library. The event begins at 2 p.m. at Goucher College’s Kraushaar Auditorium. Tickets to see Weiner – whose books include “In Her Shoes” and “The Summer Place” are free, but advance reservations are required. Sign up for tickets online starting Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. through Goucher’s ticket office at goucher.universitytickets.com The series’ 2025 events with Erik Larson and Kate Quinn were standing-room only, so register early. Percival Everett, who won the 2024 National Book Awards fiction prize for “James, ” will be part of the series on March 29 at Goucher.
- New additions: One of the most popular improvements made possible by funds from the Friends are these huge, kid-sized magnetic building tiles in front of the Children’s Area. The bright orange seating was also purchased with money raised by our Book Sale and your membership dues, thank you! The graphic of Sneaks battling a dragon promotes the castle theme that’s unique to our branch.

You can renew your membership online at https://towsonfriends.org/support/ with just a few clicks.
November 2025
Check out the Friends’ latest contributions!
Thanks to dues collected from you, our loyal members, and revenues from our annual Book Sale, the Friends of the Towson Library funded the purchase of new furniture and other cool additions to the Children’s Section. The seating is comfortable and – most importantly, durable – as well as colorful and inviting. Funds raised by the Friends were also used to purchase several round tables and chairs for the Children’s areas.

We appreciate Book Sale Donations
We are gladly accepting donations of gently-used books through March 31, 2026. You can bring books to the Information Desk at the Towson Branch during regular library hours (Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. -8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. -5 p.m.). If you have more than you can easily carry, ask at the Information Desk and a staffer will loan you a cart to take out to your car parked on the third floor of the parking garage. We also appreciate donations of reusable shopping bags that we can hand out to Book Sale patrons who have their arms full of great finds!
We accept:
- New fiction with dust jackets
- Newer nonfiction
- Any Civil War or military history
- Children’s books
- Trade paperbacks in good condition
- Pristine cookbooks and home/gardening
Unfortunately, we cannot accept books with any mold at all, textbooks, reference materials of any kind, periodicals or journals of any kind, and old books that are clearly not sellable.
News and Notes:
Brian Wickman, Library Manager at our branch the past three years, has been promoted to Senior Manager of Partnerships and Public Programs with BCPL. He’s been instrumental in creating programs that have built the Towson branch’s community partnerships in recent years with Towson University as well as Towson High and other local organizations. We wish him well, and we welcome Pat Walker, who will serve as interim branch manager. Pat recently came to Towson from the Woodlawn branch.
Slip-sliding away
Perhaps the most popular new addition to the Children’s Section is the sturdy wooden slide that is positioned on the inside of the castle wall, facing the picture book shelves. Preschoolers are loving it! We’ll be featuring other upgrades made possible by the Friends of the Towson Library in future newsletters.
